Don’t Love the Look? How to Reverse Dermal Fillers or Botox Treatments

Botox treatments and dermal fillers are some of the most popular cosmetic procedures today and can be used for a variety of skin and lip concerns. In the hands of an experienced professional, patients experience subtle, natural-looking results that give them the youthful look they seek.

In rare cases, however, patients can experience less-than-perfect outcomes when using dermal fillers or Botox. If this is you, don’t panic! It’s not permanent and in most cases can be reversed.

Botox Mistakes and How to Fix Them

Some of the most common negative results that can happen with Botox injections are heavy or droopy eyebrows or eyelids. This is usually due too much Botox placed in the forehead. This can happen especially if you have a hooded eye.

If this happens to you, don’t worry. As I said earlier, nothing is permanent and there are usually ways to handle less than flattering results. Call your practitioner and talk to them about the results to see what they can do. Normally this is an easy fix.

Botox treatments usually last from 3-4 months. To shorten the lifespan of your Botox treatment, the best action you can take is to sweat. Yes, sweat! Sit in a dry or wet sauna, go for daily runs or heavy workouts, try Bikram or Hot Yoga, and sweat as much as you can. The more you sweat, the faster the Botox will wear off.

Dermal Filler Mistakes and How to Fix Them

While negative results from dermal filler treatments are also uncommon, here are a few issues that can occur that might send you back to your practitioner:

  • Asymmetry (parts of your face look off-balance or different sized)
  • Over-filled or puffy
  • Lumps or bumps

When it comes to fillers, often it’s just about taking a little time to let your treatment settle in. There can be some puffiness that occurs right after a treatment that will diminish within 7 to 10 days.

If, after a week or two, you’re still unhappy with the results, remember that fillers don’t last forever. And if your practitioner / injector used a hyaluronic acid filler, you’re in luck. There’s an enzyme called Hyaluronidase that can be injected to safely break down and remove hyaluronic acid. The Juvederm product, Voluma, might take a little longer to correct, but a couple of treatments should get the results you want.

If nodules, or lumps, develop around your eyes or mouth after using Radiesse, a calcium filler, there are a couple solutions your practitioner can apply. One way is to use lidocaine and a needle to break it down. Or they can use sodium thiosulfate. Both options are commonly used and work great.
