Marsh with water and vegetation was once Southern Nevada and the landscape of Las Vegas. As time passed by, the rivers eventually went underground and the marsh was retreated. It was then turned into a dried and arid landscape that had the hardiest plants as well as animals. Later the water resurfaced and flowed into what is now called the Colorado River. A luxurious plant life was created which formed a wetland oasis giving water flowed to the Colorado River.

The Las Vegas oasis was protected from discovery by the harsh Mojave Desert. 60 men veered from the accepted route along the Spanish trail to Los Angeles in 1829. Las Vegas Springs were discovered when an experienced young scout, Rafael Rivera ventured into an unexplored desert.
Rafael Rivera was then known as the first non-Indian to set foot in the oasis like Las Vegas Valley. The discovery of spring water made is easier for the Spanish traders and speed up the rush west for California gold. The name Vegas was changed to Las Vegas which actually means “The Meadows” in Spanish. Some 14 years after Rivera’s discovery, John C. who was an overland expedition and he camped at Las Vegas on May 13, 1844. His name is remembered in museums as well as history books.
In 1966, Howard Hughes, checked into the penthouse and never went back until he bought the hotel rather than the face eviction. He bought many hotels worth $300 million. Great development was being made at that time and later the casino developer, Steve Wynn opened the first mega resort in Las Vegas. The strip was confirmed after the next two decades and was transformed. To make room for massive complexes old casinos were dynamited taking their cues from Egypt, Paris and Rome, also Venice and New York.
Entertainment side in Las Vegas grew bigger and bigger and at last, Las Vegas became one of the most beautiful and developed places. The city grew with the size of the resorts and also the numbers of annual visitors. The city received nearly 400 million visitors, even as the residents faced depression relating to the rising unemployment and the housing price had collapsed. Las Vegas City has been through many ups and downs but still was on the path to success and is now known as one of best tourists vacation spots.
